I recently left Florida for a Colorado trip without my cheap winter coat, since it was shedding pieces of outer shell. I had planned to throw some layers on underneath my "Florida winter jacket" (basically just a corduroy with partial fleece lining) or my REI rain shell to stay toasty/dry, but I'm glad I saw this Kuhl jacket on sale at a ski shop near EagleVail. The Kuhl jacket kept me dry and warm hiking on several miles of snow trails with occasionally gusty conditions and knee-deep powder, as well as on the ski slopes (and I had plenty of wipe-outs). My only under-layer was a short-sleeved dry fit t-shirt and fleece watch cap. When unzipped, it ventilates really well and feels like a light, casual coat. When zipped and hooded, it feels like a toaster oven. The pocket placement is intuitive and utilitarian, while also being stylish. The hood is comfortable and doesn't restrict movement or visibility. I'm looking forward to testing this new jacket on some treks on mountain ridges next! I'm 6'0" and 165 pounds with 32" waist. The medium jacket fits me perfectly.

I've worn this jacket in very cold and wet conditions. It's an almost perfect jacket! When it's not raining, the soft exterior is fantastic, because it doesn't swish when you move around. It's quiet and flexible. The sherpa lining on the inside is wonderfully warm and soft. You could be in windy and wet conditions under 40°F and still feel comfortable. It's roomy enough to wear a medium-thick sweater underneath and be mobile. Everything is intelligently designed: Pockets, zippers, interior and exterior materials. My only complaint is that the hood does not protrude far enough to protect my eyes from rain. Clearly, if you intend to use a jacket in rainy weather, you give a jacket a hood. But, additionally, the hood needs to have a bill that is at least 1.5" longer so that falling rain doesn't get into your eyes. Without this bill, the hood is only half-functional. If this jacket had this design improvement, I would give it a 5/5.
REPLY FROM KÜHL®: Thank you for the in-depth feedback on the jacket! While it is technically not a rain jacket, some extra coverage from the hood wouldn't hurt. We've passed your comments along to our design team - KM

I'm 6'1" 187lbs with a 42" chest and 35" waist and originally bought the XL after looking at the size chart, but this was way too big for me. This was possibly due to how I wear it rather than it being monstrosity large. I replaced it with a medium and mine now fits like the model images on Kuhl's website, not that I look like the model sadly. I think you need to try before you buy as I would say I could happily wear the medium, large or extra large and none would look stupid, it's just a personal choice thing. I love the Atktic Jacket. I've already got the Burr and Kollusion jackets and have always been impressed with Kuhl's quality clothing. I actually wanted the Arktik Parka, but sadly this isn't sold in the UK, but the Atktik Jacket is very warm with its fleece lining and very comfortable, should be perfect for our Scottish summers! I noted in a review on Kuhl's website that someone noticed their Kollusion Jacket wasn't waterproof and I think the Atktik has the same waxed coating. My Kollusion also doesn't keep out the rain, so I'd like to buy some of Kuhl's wax to reproof my Kollusion and add a bit too my Arktik just to make sure. However, I just can't find a retailer in the UK that stocks the wax, shame. In summary, a fabulous Jacket that should last me years.

Multiple compliments about this coat already. Difficult product to find in stores, and I am not sure why.
Pockets are too shallow, size too small, leaves lots of fuzz on me from poor lining quality
This jacket is nice and warm. Great against inclement weather. I am thoroughly happy with this purchase. This jacket is incredibly comfortable and warm. At 6'3" and 225ish this jacket is a great size/fit in an XL.
Great quality I expect to enjoy for many years.
I have recommended the Kuhl web site to all my male friends
