One look at the KÜHL SPYFIRE® JACKET and you realize it's different by design, construction and features than any other down sweater that has come before it. The SPYFIRE SERIES combines unique fabrics, precision design, and thermal body mapping to deliver technical performance and unparalleled style.
Three unique fabrics differentiate the SPYFIRE SERIES, and each fabric is engineered for a specific purpose. The water resistant and windproof shell is sourced from a superior Japanese mill that uses a 20 denier, 24 high filament nylon fabric for a softer feel and higher tear strength. The yarn is woven into an extremely tight weave that’s dense enough to increase the down proof-ness and tear strength. Strategically placed self-overlay on body front and sleeves provides extra protection from the elements.
The soft shell reinforced fabric on the shoulders allows you to carry skis or equipment with sharp edges that would shred any ordinary down sweater. Lightweight underarm knit panels allow heat to escape for better climate control and comfort in a wide range of temperatures. The ethically sourced (non-force-fed/not ‘live-plucked’) 800-fill goose down provides a superior warmth-to-weight ratio.
The SPYFIRE HOODY features 2 zippered chest pockets, 2 zippered hand pockets, 1 zip pocket on the sleeve, and an inside mesh pocket. Custom reflective ribbon below the zippers prevents snags and increases visibility in the dark.
Built with different sized baffles, the SPYFIRE HOODY boasts superior warmth where you need it. The thinner, sized-down baffles on the inside underarm panels provide a contoured fit and reduce bulk for better layering under a heavier shell. The precision 3D fit naturally follows your body’s shape, and the intricate construction eliminates binding typically found on the inside seams of jackets.

That is what my daughter told me when she saw it. I have never owned such a nice feeling jacket. It is so light and thin I was originally scared to bump into anything. The warmth and comfort of this jacket is phenomenal. It stands up nicely to winds in keeps me warm in temperate weather but not too hot. I have really grown to love Kuhl products since I have discovered you this past winter. This is one of my favorite jackets and it also goes well under my Burr jacket on very cold days. I love the availability of pockets. The chest pockets are super roomy but I somewhat tight to put anything sizable. I do feel the stomach area may be a little tight but it moves well and has brought on many compliments as the styling and feel are amazing.

Admittedly, I have a serious jacket obsession living in the Pacific Northwest. This year I bought the Spyfire Hoodie (Medium) and it has become my "go to" jacket. I am 6'1" and 185lbs. I grabbed the medium because I like a fitted jacket. I love the chest pockets for phone and wallet. The jacket is so comfy and well designed that I went and bought a second color. I would love to see three updates: light fleece lining in the lower pockets to help with hand warmth when need; a waist band cord to tighten up; and a headphone hole in one of the upper pockets. If you buy this jacket you will fall in love with it. So stoked on it.

I got my SpyFire hoody at the start of this winter. I live deep in the Catskills of New York and work outside everyday. I've found the spy fire hoody to be an excellent layer for underneath a shell when I purchased the hoody I thought it was going to be a much thicker fill and possibly a jacket all on its own (based on price). I was mistaken but not disappointed (a grams per square inch rating would be helpful) because the weight to warmth ratio of this down hoody is awesome it weighs what seems like nothing and packs well into its own hood. This hoody has become a staple piece of gear for me and I often don't leave home with out it, it is clutch to throw on when you start to feel your core temp dropping the spy fire will quickly trap in your internal furnace's heat. The only draw backs I've noticed are the lack of kuhl's signature thumb holes which would just be cool to have but really not a deal breaker and the fact that the pockets are totally uninsulated, fleece lining would be nice but would ad weight or having the pockets go inside of the down layer instead of only having a thin layer of nylon between my hands and the cold. other then those few drawbacks I love the Spyfire hoody it will be in my pack for overnight and extended trips this summer and will continue to be go to piece of gear for me in the shoulder seasons as well it seems to be holding up really well so I look forward to years of use.
