I just purchased a 2nd pair. They are extremely comfortable, I play golf in mine, wear them for backpacking and just general casual wear. They are one of the few pants I have that fit true to size.

I only recently picked up a pair of these convertibles, and they are my new favorite hiking/backpacking pant. They are lightweight and easy to remove over your boots if your on the go. The pockets are all adequately deep and secure, I don't mind the Velcro on the back pockets like some other reviews. I rarely use them when I am hiking but could see how it they might be overkill for everyday use. The waist fit perfectly and length is spot on when wearing a boot. Last thing I will say is how smooth the zippers are, they are fairly small and I thought they might be a problem when attaching and removing the lower leg but I was dead wrong. Best zipper for a convertible pant I have used. I am hoping to give these pants a full test as my primary pant on a 5 day backpacking trip in a few weeks. I will update my review again afterward, but I imagine one could easily live on the trail with a pair or two of these!

I’m a longtime Kühl fan, the fit is always bang on, comfort level instantaneous, and durability is outstanding. The Renegade convertible is a great addition to my active lifestyle- freedom of movement, a line of defence from the things that poke and scratch, and protection from the elements (such as the blowing wind and snow up on Mt. Sonsabitch yesterday). The convertibles offer options depending on conditions and allow flexibility in maintaining comfort level. The features offered are very useful- the cargo pockets are spacious enough for my needs and offer storage options for my inReach, cellphone, and other odds and ends, the zipper and snaps at the bottom cuff are a nice touch (adding one more snap for tightening up the cuff would be useful), and things are beefed up in the areas subjected to wear and tear. They don’t ‘bunch up’ at the back of the knee area like other convertibles I’ve tried, something I really appreciate. The Velcro on the back pockets (as mentioned in other reviews) is a bit of overkill but I typically don’t use my back pockets anyway so not much of an issue (anything put there will definitely stay!) and I’d also like to add that the belt loops Hicould Hikingbe a little moreH substantial and/or more of them. I’ll be ordering another pair of these.

I own 2 pairs of these pants and wear them about 75% of the year here in southern CA. Whether I'm hiking, biking, or even working, in socal we are often dealing with hot and cold temps in the same day. Even in the heat of summer, I often find myself in over air-conditioned environments, then back out in the 100 heat. I've worn REI zip-offs before and these are much better. The stretch fabric is great and they are passable as work pants at my job (college professor). I do agree with some of the other criticisms though: pocket should be about .5" deeper to accommodate most of today's smartphones; back pocket velcro is annoyingly overkill, and the addition of a belt loop or 2 would be great. I'd also suggest that the vertical zippers go all the way up to the horizontal ones so you can take them off over hiking boots (like the REI zip-offs). Other than these small complaints, I've never found better zip-offs! One word of warning: be sure to dry these on low. They will dry quickly in any case, and using a medium or high setting can warp the fabric a bit... they'll look kind of wrinkly all the time if you do it... so stick to low heat!
