Retail Store General Manager – Seattle Location

KÜHL® is seeking a Retail Store General Manager for our Seattle location. Responsibilities include maintaining a visually compelling store that reflects the brand image of KÜHL®. This role assesses customer experience feedback, addresses concerns, and develops action plans, in order to ensure a consistently compelling, innovative experience. At KÜHL®, the Retail Store General Manager models and can clearly articulate the KÜHL® vision and strategy to store teams in a way that engages, motivates, and inspires a customer-centric culture.


  • Create and implement plans to drive KPI’s to maximize profitability
  • Drive brand appropriate merchandising strategies to maximize sales
  • Drive brand loyalty by empowering team to create an outstanding customer experience
  • Champion community involvement efforts
  • Drives brand marketing and in-store event strategies to increase brand awareness and profitability
  • Create and execute store operations and processes consistently
  • Plan and lead talent attraction and retention efforts (recruitment, training, development, coaching, etc.) to maximize employee engagement, and ensure top talent for all store positions
  • Identify and monitor merchandise level and flow based upon opportunities and strengths
  • Monitor back of house operations and processes to ensure efficiency and a brand standard
  • Monitors shortage action plans to minimize shrink and achieve shrinkage goal
  • Collaborates with Director of Retail and Merchandising on store’s sales, payroll and operating budgets
  • Assures timely resolution to employee concerns and customer disputes


Knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Effective Communicator (verbal and written) – Clearly articulates point-of-view, adapts communication style to audience, listens and asks questions to solicit feedback, and disseminates information effectively
  • Leads through coaching and motivation
  • Possesses a strong visual merchandising sense; knows the power of styling to drive customer satisfaction
  • Results driven – Inspires and motivates to exceed goals
  • Knowledge of retail store systems
  • Passion for the outdoors a plus

Experience/Physical Requirements:

  • 5 years retail experience, small business owner/entrepreneurial experience a plus
  • 2 years retail apparel merchandising experience
  • Strong emphasis in customer service industry or field leadership
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business, including nights, weekends and Holidays
  • Ability to travel as required
  • Ability to lift and carry 40lbs
  • Ability to maneuver around sales floor, back room, office areas and work around cleaning chemicals
