SPYFIRE™ DOWN JACKET
One look at the KÜHL SPYFIRE™ ULTRALIGHT DOWN JACKET and you'll realize it's different by design and construction than any other down sweater that has come before it. The SPYFIRE SERIES combines unique fabrics, precision design, and thermal body mapping to deliver technical performance and unparalleled style.
Four unique fabrics differentiate the SPYFIRE SERIES, and each fabric is engineered for a specific purpose. The water resistant and windproof shell is sourced from a superior Japanese mill that uses a 20 denier, 24 high filament nylon fabric for a softer feel and higher tear strength. The yarn is woven into an extremely tight weave that’s dense enough to increase the down proof-ness and tear strength. The front panel features two layers for added durability.
DIFFERENT BY DESIGN
Built with different sized baffles, the SPYFIRE JACKET boasts superior warmth where you need it. The precision 3D fit naturally follows your body’s shape, and the intricate construction eliminates binding typically found on the inside seams of jackets.
WATER RESISTANT & WINDPROOF 20D WITH 24 HIGH FILAMENT NYLON SHELL
- Fabric 1: 100% Nylon DWR | 1.9 oz/sq. yd; 38 GSM
- Fabric 2: 88% Nylon, 12% Spandex | 5.3 oz/sq. yd; 180 GSM
- Fabric 3: 100% Nylon ripstop | 1.03 oz/sq. yd; 35 GSM

- Double Layer shell fabric for added durability is strategically placed on the front body panel.
DIFFERENT BY CONSTRUCTION
Reflective Zipper Tape serves 2 functions:
- It prevents the zippers from catching on the ultra-fine nylon fabric
- When left open, the reflective yarn on the ribbon creates added visibility.
LIGHTWEIGHT UNDERARM KNIT PANELS provide greater comfort in a wide variety of temperature allowing heat to escape when you are more active for better climate control.
2 ZIPPERED CHEST POCKETS allows you access while wearing a pack.
2 ZIPPERED HAND POCKETS to secure your gear.
1 INSIDE MESH POCKET giving you plenty of options for storing your essentials.
The soft shell reinforced fabric on the shoulders allows you to carry skis or equipment with sharp edges.

After a lot of looking at all competition, I settled on this jacket. Ironically, it was the first down jacket I tried on at a local REI. After having used it on a few backpacking trips I can't rave enough about this jacket. The fit, features, durability, weight, warmth, water resistance, and breathability are all 10 out of 10. I'm 5'8" and 165lbs. A medium was just perfect for me with plenty of room to layer, but yet not at all bulky to slide over my Kuhl shell layer during heavy rain, or for extra protection. The biggest selling factor for me is how durable the material is around the shoulders. This makes backpacking with it a breeze and worry free of damage by my pack. Over all, this is the kind of jacket you can wear around town during cold weather, or deep into a backpacking trip. While I opt to take my bigger parka when seeing temps fall below 0, I would still feel protected taking this along with some other vital layering pieces.

Bought the Spyfire down jacket while vacationing in Park City. I live in Texas and only occasionally need a winter jacket. This fits the bill! Lightweight, stylish, comfortable and very warm. First test was while visiting in Michigan over Thanksgiving. While my Michigan family and friends were shivering in the drizzling rain and 38 degrees, I was toasty warm and lookin' good!! Thank you Kuhl.
REPLY FROM KÜHL: Warm and looking good... goes together like a...well, er, um... like a KUHL jacket with a pair of KUHL pants. Thanks!

I love this jacket. I am an avid skier and mountaineer. I'm very athletic, 5'9, 165, and wear a Medium. It fits perfectly and is useful for so many different types of terrain. I originally spent over 20 hours doing research on finding the right jacket. I ended up purchasing 3 different jackets to test: a North Face puffy, a Patagonia puffy, and (the FAMOUS) Ghost Whisperer from Mountain Hardware. I was dissappointed with every result, so I wandered into a random REI and (having no knowledge of this jacket) purchased it to test. Great decision! This jacket beats them all-- soundly. I am complimented regularly for its look, but more importantly, the jacket keeps me as warm as I need to be. It breathes well enough, and is sure to keep the core toasty, so your body can safely distribute that heat elsewhere. I'm pretty skinny, so my hands get cold really quickly. Since transitioning to this jacket, I haven't noticed that problem at all (my gloves stayed the same). Living in Texas, the cold is a somewhat foreign concept. I ski 6-10 times a year and hike 4-8 times per year (in serious mountain terrain). This jacket goes with me every time. The worst experience (of weather) I ever found myself in with this jacket was an early May hike on a 14er in Colorado. We summited around 10.30 am and were immediately blasted by a storm. The entire 7 mile trek up was in tennis shoes and crampons. I had on a short sleeved shirt, a baseball hat, and this jacket (it was supposed to be a sunny, easy day!). The wind from the storm boasted a range of 50-70 mph with blinding snow flurry and a beating of hail. My climbing buddy and I couldn't see more than 2-3 feet in front of us. It took us 4 hours to get out of the storm (starting at 14,000 ft), and never once was any part of my body cold. Temps dipped well below 20 F and we were moving painfully slow, due to the fear of waltzing off a cliff. My friend was wearing an Arcteryx puffy and was painfully cold the entire time. After that experience, I won't ever own another jacket. This thing is awesome!
REPLY FROM KÜHL: Thanks Drew! That's both an amazing product review and comparison to our leading competitors and a vivid recounting of 4 harrowing hours...more so for you climbing partner as he was shivering the entire time while you were at least comfortable temperature wise if not able to see very well. Things change fast in the mountains and that is why KUHL never changes our mission to build the best products we know how to make that are truly different by design and different by construction.

I've always been apprehensive about buying these types of jackets. They are so light and you don't think they are going to keep you warm. Well this jacket does keep you fairly warm. For me, (a 47 year old) I can tolerate temps in the 40s with this jacket. And it does pretty well when the breezes kick up. Combined with the Kuhl Retro Hoodie and I'v been able to tolerate temps in the 20s. The other thing I like is the style. I like Kuhl's styling to begin with. This jacket is very different than the cookie cutter style you see in these jackets from other brands. Sizing - I'm 6'2", 210lbs. The large fits me fine. It lightly hugs my body at that size, but I do have full range of movement without it feeling restrictive. Great jacket.
REPLY FROM KÜHL: Layering and one's own core temperature will effect the thermal properties of each and every product for each and everyone of us. We find the Spyfire jacket to be serve at a remarkable range of temperatures for a wide variety of situations. Thanks for your insights, BMan.

It's was a gift
Really enjoy it. The fit is great, very slimming despite a big warm coat. The neck is not as fitting, but it works great with a scarf. Breathes well and I wore it in and out of the stores while shopping over the weekend.
Excellent product design, construction, shape & fit. Fast delivery, fine service.
Best jacket ever!
Use casually this Winter
