Men's Performance Pants

KÜHL Men's Pants Are Engineered for Trail, Jobsite, and Everything Between
Whether you're carving switchbacks, swinging a hammer, or moving from a 6 a.m. flight to a sunset ridge, the right pant disappears under the day's demands. Choose from a variety of fabrics, styles, and features for the men's pants that are right for you:
DURALUX™. Lightweight Toughness. Built for movers who count grams, DURALUX™ is a nylon-spandex blend with a DWR finish, UPF 50+ sun protection, and a soft-to-the-touch hand. It dries fast after a creek crossing and sheds light rain without the stiffness of a hardshell.
ENDURO™ for Office-to-Trail. ENDURO™ is the quick-drying, lightly stretched fabric we reach for when one pant has to handle a board meeting and a backcountry trailhead. Excellent abrasion resistance keeps the hem honest after a season of men's travel pants duty.
REFLEX™ 4-Way Stretch for Active Days: REFLEX™ delivers mechanical stretch in every direction with the structure of a woven, so you get freedom of movement without the saggy memory of a knit. Pair it with articulated knees and a gusseted crotch and the pant simply moves with you.
On-Trail Performance. For miles of trail, look for pants that combine breathable softshell, UPF 50+, and the FreeRyde™ waistband, a flexible internal band that stays put when you're scrambling but never pinches at the waist. Mesh ventilation and quick-dry construction handle hot afternoons. An articulated cut handles the climbs.
Rugged Reliability. Jobsite-bound styles lean on heavier canvas, ripstop reinforcements, and built-up knee panels: features tuned for welding sparks, ladder rungs, and tools on the hip. When the day calls for the heavier end of the lineup, look for canvas-weave construction with articulated knees and a deep utility pocket.
Look for signature touches like KÜHL's articulated knees for freedom of movement, gusseted crotch for unrestricted range, FreeRyde™ waistband for all-day comfort, and the EQUALIZR™ rear pocket, small, considered details that separate a pant you tolerate from one you reach for first.

Everything to look for in a performance pant: fabrics, fit, weather protection, and which KÜHL pant matches your day, from trail to jobsite to plane.

What should you look for in men's pants?

The best men's pants combine a stretch synthetic fabric, a mobility-first cut, and weather-ready finishes. Look for a nylon-spandex blend with REFLEX™ 4-way stretch, articulated knees, and a gusseted crotch. Those three together do more for real-world comfort than any silhouette label. Add a DWR finish to shed light rain and UPF 50+ to handle sun on exposed days, and you've got a pant that works from trailhead to weeknight dinner. Pockets matter too: a hidden security pocket for an ID, a drop-in phone pocket, and the EQUALIZR™ rear pocket that keeps a wallet from skewing the back panel.

Are jeans or cotton pants OK for hiking, working, or traveling in?

No: cotton is the wrong fabric for any of those three. Cotton soaks up sweat and rain, holds it against your skin, and takes hours to dry, which means chafing on long days and real cold-soak risk in shoulder seasons. Synthetic-blend technical fabrics like DURALUX™ and ENDURO™ wick moisture, dry in minutes, and keep their shape under a pack belt or a tool belt. They also resist abrasion better than denim's open weave, so they survive granite scrambles and ladder rungs that would shred a jean. If you love the look of a jean, our canvas-woven styles deliver the silhouette with technical-grade durability.

What's the difference between hiking, work, and travel pants?

Hiking, work, and travel pants share a KÜHL DNA but tune the fabric and feature mix to different days. Our men's hiking pants prioritize stretch softshell, UPF 50+, mesh ventilation, and quick-dry construction so you can move fast through changing trail conditions. Our men's work pants lean on heavier canvas, ripstop reinforcements, and reinforced knee panels for jobsite abrasion. Travel-leaning pants prioritize a lighter, dressier hand (ENDURO™ is the recipe) so one pant carries you from a 5 a.m. flight to a client dinner to a hotel-gym shakeout. Pick by the day's hardest demand, not the label.

What's the best fit for pants: slim, relaxed, or wide-leg?

The best fit is the one built around an articulated knee and a gusseted crotch. Silhouette comes second. Slim, relaxed, and wider cuts all work as long as the construction lets the leg move. A slim pant without articulation will pull at the knee on a high step, and a relaxed pant without a gusset will catch when you crouch. The FreeRyde™ waistband adapts to changing waist size through the day, which matters more than the leg opening for all-day comfort. Pick the silhouette you actually like to wear, then verify it has the mobility features above before buying.

What should you wear in hot vs cold weather?

For hot weather, choose lightweight softshell or woven styles with UPF 50+, mesh ventilation behind the knee, and quick-dry construction: DURALUX™ is the recipe most of our warm-weather pants are built on. For cold weather, switch to heavier softshell or canvas with a brushed interior and a wind-resistant face, and layer a thermal baselayer underneath when temperatures drop below freezing. A DWR finish handles dry snow and graupel. For sustained wet cold, layer a hardshell pant over the top.

Are pants waterproof, or just water-resistant?

Most performance pants are water-resistant, not waterproof, and that's usually the right call. A DWR finish causes light rain, snow, and trail splashes to bead and roll off, while the fabric still breathes for high-output movement. A truly waterproof hardshell pant traps body moisture inside and is overkill for most days. When you know you'll be in sustained rain or wind-driven precipitation, see our men's water-resistant pants for higher-shed options, or pair a softshell pant with a packable hardshell over the top.
